I guess there may have been already many internal organisations representing different groups of people by various criteria in their company. Will the union be just another layer on top of them? If so, is that necessary?

What a Velho do Restelo position! Unions can and do push for more focus on actual growth of companies and the welbeing of employees rather than the "pay shareholders at all costs" mindset pervasive in today's society and only benefits hoarding of money by millionaires.

And if alphabet workers have the means and position to do it than many low wage workers cannot under the penalty of not having food on the table next day, let them pave the way. Economy is built on the streets, not on speculative stock exchanges!
