I disagree. Now that we know some of the vaccines are good we have 20-20 hindsight about them. The same spectators could be yelling stuff like “unscientific”, “unaccountable” etc if we started mass vaccination without safety and efficacy evidence.

That happened in Russia when we started rolling out our vaccine without the phase 3. A month after: all those "I LUV SCIENCE" people started posting pictures with them getting a shot. The catch: the clinical trials still aren't over.

When you’re going to vaccinate billions of people it is essential to establish that P(help)>P(harm). This requires knowledge of safety and efficacy, which were established in phases 2 and 3. The results could have been very different.
