Not surprising. Strongly correlated to a commitment to truth and courage to stand up for it. Which of course makes you a target if the mob feels that the truth threatens their ideology.

Having found many people I respect on both sides of cancel dynamics, I think there is something deeper that we are missing. Possibly a radical change in world view and moral compass from what we grew up with.

It's not so much "cancel culture", it's "trial by internet" aka mob rule ... and you always have to look at who is driving the mob and how they profit from it.

You can never be great if you fear being an outlier.

I am convinced they've ruined the internet. There was some recent case which saw someone create a bunch of outrage mobilising their 12k followers, and then proceeded to attempt to extort the target by asking for repatriations. It's psychotic stuff.

The people we admire are those who are authentic, independent thinking, non-confirming, and challengers of the status quo. The cancel mobs are the exact opposite.
