As you know, Timnit's paper was not censored - it would be published either way - and she was not fired. Rather, if you trash your company's efforts in your area and threaten to resign, you shouldn't be surprised if they let you.

IT IS censorship. They are telling her to make changes to her paper not because what she said in there was untrue but because it's unfavorable to "their efforts*...that's like the very definition of censorship. No, they asked for changes because the paper was seriously flawed, as they pointed out. They had every right to not want Google's name associated with it.
