Anima, the NIPS name change was a terrible idea, and the community properly rejected it. What's sad is that in the end you still managed to get the acronym changed to the current clunky, confusion-promoting one.

Yes, that happens for sure. I just don't see how this is an argument or problem? If I was to complain regarding mispronunciations I'd go crazy in every talk/lecture I've ever heard/given. The community is diverse, optimizing for these little things is inefficient imho.

I also can't count the times women colleagues have complained about inappropriate jokes referencing the former name. Which one do you think is more troubling? I'm a non-native speaker, if that makes any difference.

It's amazing that you would bring up this minor inconvenience as an argument, since many non-native speakers in NeurIPS already have to give technical talks in English.

@NeurIPSConf is much much better name. The previous one was so misleading. It clearly tells what's the conference is all about and as I recall the very first law in programming is naming every entity properly.@AnimaAnandkumar -
