Anima, the NIPS name change was a terrible idea, and the community properly rejected it. What's sad is that in the end you still managed to get the acronym changed to the current clunky, confusion-promoting one.

Nah, this is the same stuff people complained about in civil eng too. I think when men realized that their daughters or wives were attending the same conferences and workplaces things started to change. No one wants their kid to think they are that gross old guy.

Well, I am pretty sure the number of people that refers to the conference as NeurIPS is larger than the ones complaining about the acronym change. Come on, there are more serious problems that need our attention. This is such a tantrum!
