Whats a concrete ideological bias you are mentioning and why is it alarming? AI tech is affecting a lot of people these days (many of them in a negative way). Its perhaps time to consider the ethical implications of our tech?
For example, suppressing research because it's supposedly potentially harmful to some group of people, no matter how far-fetched, as has already been illustrated on this thread (ban classifiers that predict sex because they're transphobic - I'm not kidding).
Please name one ethical application of AI where you need to create a classifier that predicts gender.
i) I can't think of a way that a classifier can predict sex that doesn't reproduce or amplify any bias in the data which in turn disproportionally harms marginalised groups of people who are already subject to various forms of systemic oppression.
ii) It violates the personality rights of any individual in your training data as well as at inference time (you are inferring attributes about them without their knowledge, let alone consent).
Dude do you have any idea how many trans people work in the field itself? Get with it.
you say it's wrong to suppress research because it is supposedly harmful. Do you believe it is wrong because the harm is not clear ("supposedly"), or because harm is not a valid reason to reject a paper? eg, if we can agree that a paper definitely causes harm, should we reject?
or, flipped: if we both agree that a paper definitely will cause harm if accepted but it is technically sound and novel, should we accept it?
