It's alarming that NeurIPS papers are being rejected based on "ethics reviews". How do we guard against ideological biases in such reviews? Since when are scientific conferences in the business of policing the perceived ethics of technical papers?

True that the _requirements_ only apply to human/animal research. However, the first paragraph of the biosecurity policy says that Nature will seek expert advice about "implications to society of publishing a paper" if there are potential concerns.
