It’s not clear to me that the social processes by which researchers split into “camps” are so different from those that professional politicians use. That aside, ethics review can be done in a fair way if guidelines for reviewers are clear.
The social processes may be similar, but that doesn't justify erasing the distinction between scientific issues and political ones.
