thank you for saying this out loud. looks like they forgot the very basics of designing for user experience. the new icons are 100% flashy and 0% discernable. i hope they return it to normal.

It looks like having a common colour theme across the apps was the goal, it reminds users Google is behind all these apps. Also if you look at them individually, they don’t look all that hideous. We will get used to them in no time.

The common color theme also makes it easy to identify Google apps when you scroll through your app library.
