One might argue that it was ready enough to be put in front of users for mass testing, but not complete enough to used as a final product. But then again, VR isn’t likely to be a final product anytime soon. What with the limitations of current battery capacity.

VR and AR will never be ready till we have open protocols like TCP, FTP, HTTP, etc and a neutral body like IETF creating standards. Otherwise you’ll have Balkanized systems that don’t connect and users and devs reject them.
