That $30k number is goofy. It would cost a lot to get *me* to opt out of search engines, email, etc because I'd be at a massive disadvantage to the rest of the world. If we all had to pay $30k/yr for that, we'd live in a different world where no one would really pay it.

Can also complain that this seems related to the Endowment effect (except the service is denominated in attention) but then, this is a hypothetical amount not actual. It's also muddied by the existence of alternatives (conflating internet map with google maps or email with gmail)
