I applied this approach to filesystem paths once. Worked great for certain use cases. When I see something accepting (string path) I don't know if that's absolute/relative or to path/directory.

Jane Street's Quickcheck module is nice. I'm doing The Maître d' kata by using property-based tests. My OCaml skills are getting better.

Just a reminder in case people think it's too difficult to "get started" with a program on in three steps. 1. Install dotnet core. 2. Write the following in notepad or *any text editor*. 3. Run the file with dotnet. It's really, really, not that hard.

I'm getting really tired of the start screen being stuck on the mountain lake. I've tried all the fixes that involve deleting files from the ContentDeliveryManager directory, as well as PS-based re-registration. Nothing works 🙁 How can this OS feature be so crappy?

Does anyone know of a utility that can temporarily disable the mouse on Windows? Ideally, I'd like to be able to turn the mouse on and off with a few key presses. When disabled, there should be no mouse cursor, and physically moving the mouse should do nothing.

What's wrong with exceptions? They create a second system logic of control flow, disconnected from the usual one, unpredictable, hybridized and intertwined. We should stop using them (or use a language that doesn't have them, like Go)

It's quite staggering what 4 good software developers can achieve in a year if you let them, compared to what 400 can achieve in 5 years. Still amazes me when managers choose the latter.

In fact, I had one client, many years ago, where I configured a container-based convention-over-configuration system for a largish code base of theirs. After I left, they pulled out the container and replaced it all with Pure DI.

Twitter isn't the best place to have a nuanced debate, which the current fracas for and against DI Containers demonstrate. I actually grant that a case can be made for using a container; I've just never seen such usage in the wild.

Indeed 👍 - Don't you think addition is good? - Yeah, sure... - Then shouldn't we do it all the time? - Not when we need to multiply.

I’m pleased to present the flame-bait sequel to my previous blog post: “No, dynamic type systems are not inherently more open.” (Please send me your hatemail at your earliest convenience.)

For 10+ years it's been my express goal to keep code bases small. When they grow large, I start to look for ways to split them up. How about a lot of small code bases that can be managed by a team of a few developers? Can we come up with a name for that kind of architecture? 6/n

Lines of code has little correlation to the amount of features afforded by a piece of software, or its quality, or its performance characteristics. On the other hand, I find big code bases harder to manage and more difficult to change than smaller code bases. 5/n

Such repositories would be part of a larger ecosystem. I've had a hand in managing some of those. That might be more than half a million lines of code, but I admit that now I guesstimating. Is that a large code base? I think it's large enough 4/n
