Academia is a place where feedback (if it comes) is usually critique. So when I read an article I like, I’ve started emailing the authors out of the blue thanking them for writing it and mentioning how it was important/valuable to me.
You wouldn’t believe how often I get delighted responses from people surprised that their work is being valued and engaged with as well as just grabbed from google scholar during lit review. As a practice for making this space less awful: Do recommend.
I've been contacting the authors of papers for further feedback on what I'm researching for a sci-fi project and they are all so delighted to help out (with many offering stellar ideas of their own). It feels like another nice way of appreciating their work
