I infer from the FAA's 'mishap' statement that the Astra Rocket 1 flight ended at fairly low altitude and did not reach space (otherwise it would be reported as 'underperformance' at worst).
However, even a brief first flight of a new vehicle can give you a lot of data on the propulsion system. So IMO it's fine/not a big deal to have a failure like this on a first flight test.
Which space though, the real one or 100 km?
