But also, when you start punishing students for their social activities, you are destroying away any hope of contract tracing or risk-targeted testing. And not just on your campus; even we don't do that here, our students will be wary about reporting their activities now.

Why am I so frustrated at the universities suspending large numbers of students for attending parties? Partly it's the blame-shifting from administrators who failed to develop feasible proactive strategies for return from campus.

At a Harvard new employee orientation, an icebreaker was “What have you learned since coming here?” Most of us said stuff like “how to make a human ear from pig cells.” BUT somebody said, “There are dumb people everywhere.” That was 2010 — I still think of her once in a while.

Months of careful planning for reopening college in a pandemic undone “in the blink of an eye” by students having off-campus parties. Who could have even imagined this astonishing possibility? h/t

Boris just throwing a tent up when he's clearly staying in that cottage so the media can talk about how he's camping in Scotland is just so laughably transparent and depressingly effective.

I will never be anything other than proud that I voted remain and against the Tories, particularly against this Johnson govt. Yes, I lost every time. But my conscience is clear. My votes are not responsible for any of this tsunami of shit.

What explains this? It’s probably partly cultural/structural. It may be easier to WFH in a service-based economy. Meanwhile Britons are more likely than any other Europeans to already shop online so avoiding physical shops is easier. 6/12

Anyone else notice the word “remainer” - as a pejorative - is undergoing a change in meaning? It no longer just means “opposed to brexit” - it’s also increasingly used at anyone who points out corruption & low standards in the British state. This is very revealing in many ways.
