Wallets (in most markets; assume same in US) are obliged to “hold” entire balance and can’t charge interest. Hence, no NIM. Equating to bank accounts (as per OP) is a _major_ stretch
-
The OP equates them to neobanks, none of which make NIM.

Easy to get how Visa, MC, CUP, UPI et al have n/w effect. But, TBH, I don't see how E-Wallets do - I can use PhonePe to send money to someone who has Google Pay. (If you're referring to closed loop e-wallets, that's a different story but I doubt if they'll be around for long.)
-
Why do you doubt closed loop wallets will be around? Other than in India due to UPI, I think they will. Venmo, Cash app, PayPal in the US; Alipay/Wechatpay in China

P2P wallets can only exist in markets where there is no real time payment infrastructure. For e.g in India wallets are dead due to UPI but works Super well in Indonesia where Payments are broken

The line between consumer and SMBs are getting blurred, p2p wallets can soon be including SMB owners and merchants. I’m looking for interesting applications built on top of this thesis
