After two and half centuries of our nation's history, it's come to this: The President's lawyers argue on the Senate floor that he can withhold aid, coerce an ally, and try to cheat in an election, And there's nothing we can do about it. Our Founders would be aghast.

When we have a President who so egregiously abuses and corrupts his office, unlike other countries, we have a remedy: Impeachment. This trial is now part of our Constitutional heritage. But if we refuse a fair trial, it diminishes the example we set for the rest of world.

Rule XXV (Subpoena Rule): “The form of a subpoena to be issued on the application of the Managers of the impeachment, or of the party impeached, or of his counsel.” There is no Senate vote requirement. House Managers can request a subpoena, and the Chief Justice can grant it.

Rule V: The Chief Justice shall have the power to make and issue—by himself—all orders, mandates, writs, and precepts authorized by these rules, or by the Senate, and to make and enforce such other regulations and orders in the premises as the Senate may authorize or provide.

Breaking News: President Trump said he wanted to keep aid to Ukraine frozen until its officials helped him with investigations into Democrats, John Bolton wrote in an unpublished manuscript of a new book

The President blocked our request for Bolton’s testimony. Now we see why: Bolton directly contradicts the heart of the President’s defense. If the trial is to be fair, Senators must insist that Mr. Bolton be called as a witness, and provide his notes and other documents.

One of the best decisions Speaker Pelosi made was to put Adam Schiff in charge of the impeachment trial. Substantive, brilliant, unflappable. He's the kind of patriot that Trumpers pretend to be! With him all the way until the end.

Let’s imagine it wasn’t Joe Biden. Let’s imagine it was any one of us. Let’s imagine the most powerful man in the world was asking a foreign nation to conduct a sham investigation of us. What would we think about it then? Because next time, it might be.

All over the world, those living under oppressive regimes look to us. They look to us because we have a rule of law. Because in America, no one is above that law. To my Senate colleagues, I implore you: Give America a fair trial. She's worth it.

Donald Trump must be convicted and removed from office. Because he will always choose his own personal interest over our national interest. Because in America, right matters. Truth matters. If not, no Constitution can protect us. If not, we are lost.

Rep. Adam Schiff quotes from Alexander Hamilton at the start of House impeachment managers' opening arguments in the trial of Pres. Donald Trump.

Adam Schiff just quoted the first part of this section of Federalist 65, but forgot the last half where Hamilton says "...the greatest danger that the decision will be regulated more by the comparative strength of parties, than by the real demonstrations of innocence or guilt."

SCHIFF: "We are here today in this hallowed chamber undertaking a solemn action for only third time in history because Donald J. Trump, the 45th President of the United States, has acted precisely as Hamilton and his contemporaries feared."

SCHIFF: "The framers worried, as we worry today, that a leader might come to power, not to carry out the will of the people that he was elected to represent, but to pursue his own interests... So they devised a remedy as powerful as the evil it was meant to combat: impeachment."

"They did not intend for the power of impeachment to be used frequently or as a matter of policy... but they put it in the constitution for a reason" House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff, opening the Trump , quotes Alexander Hamilton

Rep. Schiff just obliquely referenced , basically saying Hamilton's influence as a Founding Father is important here apart from his renewed "popularity" on Broadway.

Now the actual case for removing Pres. Trump begins on the Senate floor. Not the rules, not the redos. Manager Schiff begins at the beginning -- quoting Founding Father Alexander Hamilton on the logic for impeachment...
