🎧 What does the brain sound like? 🎧 I've been playing around turning spikes and LFP into music, and wrote a tutorial. This is the sound of mouse V1 during audiovisual stimulation. Check it out and let me know what you think! 🎼💃🕺

How does the brain do memory? If you'd like to find out more about it, vote for my talk proposal: "Using Python and machine learning to study the neural mechanisms of memory" 🤯🙌

1/ After a decade(!) finally published my first PhD project... My conclusion: Dorsal hippocampus CA1 does not encode the position of other agents, ie no evidence for social or mirror place fields. It primarily encodes the position and body posture of the animal itself.

New paper out on with and Jeroen Bos 🎉 We show how the location of an external agent modulates hippocampal ensembles without eliciting canonical place field responses

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Yet I am still reading things like: According to paired t‐tests, none of the variables differed between the control and two‐rat sessions, showing that the presence of a second rat did not alter gross locomotor behavior. 😒

Neurons in the rat hippocampus code information about the location of a minirobot in the absence of typical place cell behavior: take a look at our manuscript under review at

“A Magazine Is an iPad That Does Not Work” a fave video. As our technosphere becomes more advanced & pervasive it is increasingly difficult to distinguish it from raw physics. Eg one day it will be odd that there was a time you couldn’t talk to all objects

I've written a tutorial called 'PCA: from newbie to ninja', with a bit of theory and a step-by-step guide to a simple Python implementation. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Question: what's wrong with using Kraskov estimators when the data (e.g. spike count) only has discrete levels?
