Actually Piers, 2A’s prefatory clause announces a purpose, but does not limit or expand the scope of the second part, the operative clause. The operative clause’s text and history demonstrate that it connotes an individual right to keep and bear arms.

Now Piers, that's an ignorant statement for a stiff ass Brit like you. My 10th grade civics class taught us Citizens right to keep and bear arms to form a militia if it became necessary to fight an invasion or tyranny from within.

It’s a pretty simple sentence Piers...The well regulated militia is the reason the people have the right to bear arms. It says nothing about a militia is necessary for the people to bear arms. The militia is formed of armed citizens! #SecondAmendment
