Sir Alastair Cook????? A knighthood for a guy who has only the 24th best English Test batting average & was never even the best player in his own team? And he gets one ahead of the great @GeoffreyBoycott? What a farce.pic.twitter.com/SHw8Heu2iN

Do you mean the same Geoffery Boycott who was convicted of domestic violence in 1998? Or perhaps you mean the Geoffery Boycott who said that if he "blacked up" he might get a knighthood?

Nope. Not deserved. There was a time when being knighted meant something. Not anymore, it seems. Handed out waaaaay too easily these days.

I agree they do seem to be handed out easily these days but if that's the case then surely the highest scoring English test cricketer ever is deserved!

Well said Jamie. A knighthood for the most successful player in the history of our national sport is exactly what the honours system exists for.

Alastair Cook deserves every accolade he gets. To open the batting in English conditions and score that many runs consistently is extraordinary He's tapped more runs off his pads than you've tapped people's phones

England’s greatest ever run scorer in Tests. Fifth most Test runs of all-time. Most Tests as England captain. Dual Ashes winning captain. Best of all - carried himself with class throughout unlike some others he played with for whom your agenda against him has been based.

Once upon a time a knighthood was for someone who discovered cures, for diseases, explored new lands or saved lives. Now you're rooting for someone who hits a hard ball. Soon they'll be available in a #ChristmasCracker

Let's not beat about the bush, Cook was one of the most boring players the world has ever seen, he's is partly the reason for 20/20 being. They needed to make cricket exciting. He only ever played 4 T20 internationals because he couldn't handle the pace of the game.
