Run a ioctl that is valid only on mounted filesystems?

most fs ioctls you issue on fds referring to files on the fs itself; but i don't have access to that most likely, but instead only have access to the device node, which generally do not expose particularly many ioctls, and none afaics that are only valid on mounted block devices

If you try to deactivate, say, an LVM volume that's mounted, you get an error, so something knows. Does findmnt(1) do anything clever?

Write to random parts of the device, then use the mic to see if there's any screaming / crying within the next 10 minutes? On a more serious note, other than O_EXCL, is there anything under /sys/block/DEV/PART that could work?
