3 unknowns and two equations. After finding the height of the table one has only one equation for the remaining two variables so it's not possible to decide each animal's height

What's odd about the problem? That's how I always measure tables.

For some reason I'm getting the cat as 40cm and the tortoise as 20cm (assuming the table is 150cm)
-
But anything with a 20cm difference between the two would work

Kat is 40cm en omdat de som (300cm) van deze plaatjes 2 tafels is, is de tafel 150cm en de schildpad dus 20cm.pic.twitter.com/nDMg9JI1wi

Of course there is. Table height is solved by simple algebra (150 cm). From which the rest follows.
-
All that follows is that the cat is 20cm taller than the turtle. It simplifies to 1 equation with 2 unknowns so you can’t determine the actual heights of the animals, only the relationship between their heights.

Table height = 150cm No, the two equations are degenerate. You just know that the cat is 20cm taller than the turtle. Love this problem!!
