    It is baked into the corporate structure, the Trust exists for that particular purpose, there's no giving up on it, it's not an afterthought to profit, or greenwashing. This + the ability to both own the platform for the commons and being able to distribute earnings makes it 💪

    Open Collective, and other companies like us, see the world differently. We are driven by the impact we want to make on the world. Steward ownership is a way to ensure that, after our current founders, and team have moved on, OC will still stay focused on its purpose.

    Why is this necessary? Traditional for-profit corporate structures are driven by one thing and one thing only: profit. Their purpose is to maximize value for their shareholders (understood as profit) Some progress has been done with BCorps but this goes a hell of a lot further.

    PPTs are a form of steward ownership. Steward ownership is an alternative to conventional ownership that allows for a group of stewards to govern a company during a period of time. The structure permanently secures a company’s mission and independence in its legal DNA 🧬

    🚀🔥We keep thinking in public about Exit to Community. One option we are considering is creating a Trust that will own the platform. But not all Trusts are created equal! This is a Perpetual Purpose Trust, the goal here is to protect the mission for the future.
