Can anyone help me explain this??? The rotating magnet has poles radially, & the levitated mag has its N pole up. This doesn't work if the S pole is upwards.. it can work axially at the tip of the rotor too?!?!?!?

Vortex Dome in Slow motion, my favourite move to give the most defined outline to the pattern of vortices. Google Vortex Dome for more information :)

Another magnetic spinning kinetic art desk toy. Energy stored in the wheel animates the ferris type movement. Rotors of varying geometries can be used to show the effect of the moment of inertia.

Magnetic spinning kinetic art desk toy. Energy stored in the wheel keeps this going for some time. Wheels of varying geometries can be used to show the effect of the moment of inertia :)

More playing with the Vortex Dome. Trying out a luminous additive and seeing how the desk toy looks when the rheoscopic fluid is energised with blue and UV light. I enjoy making these similar to the Kalliroscope. This physics toy really shows fluid dynamics. Very mesmerising...

Vortex Dome: kinetic art with rheoscopic fluid in a rotating base. Visualizing the invisible- the Vortex Dome is the creation of engineer/inventor and featured artist David Fowler aka who creates this modern rotating kalliroscope…

have you ever tried turning the Vortex Dome upside down, letting it rest, then turning it back? Here’s a time lapse I made, you can get some really cool patterns!

This is really interesting... so even a small brain can show complex behaviour and learning skills.
