"In this moment, this time of crisis, when the wealthy are growing wealthier, while the economy tanks, I, as a poet in 2020, recognize the tyrants of America are the careless rich. Courage insists on poets bringing out our poems to topple them." @EJMCADAMS brooklynrail.org/2020/11/poetry

It's important that we keep these conversations going as a community. We are only as humane as we expect the organizations we accept money from to be. #WhosePoemsOurPoems

"For almost 30 years, as a dedicated member and supporter of the organization, I’ve allowed myself to entertain the idea that this is indeed a house by and for poets." EJ McAdams on the firing of Poets House staff brooklynrail.org/2020/11/poetry

In another part of our district... an entire staff fired. Punished for trying to organize a healthier work place where workers have a say and where workers have control. Another example of the failure of top-down “solutions”. Listen to workers ... they know what is best.

White supremacy, rather than being an aberration, is a function of wealth in poetry. The fact that Glück felt comfortable saying this in her public acceptance speech for the highest award in literature proves this.

In which Louise Glück professes to the world that the "intimate, private voice" of her lyric poems stems from her unreconstructed, girlhood appreciation for the plangent longing of minstrel songs and Black persona poems. Where's the lyric shame when you need it? twitter.com/mongibeddu/sta…

This is harrowing, but we encourage everyone to read it in full. Solidarity with all damaged book workers whose labor, passion, and creativity are regularly exploited by this industry.

Small Press Distribution exploited & abused me for two years. I was underpaid by over $4,000. I was paid less than minimum wage. I was retaliated against until I was forced from my job and pressured to stay silent. Instead, I submit the truth. damagedbookworker.medium.com/terrorized-by-

Over 200 Literary Figures Sign Open Letter to Poets House: "...reconsider and reverse the firings” and “commit to dignified working conditions” as well as offer clarity on the rationale behind the closure and layoffs — which to some remains murky.

Notice which poets aren't commenting publicly on labor abuses within the poetry community. Their silence speaks volumes about their relationship to power and how they think of poetry workers.
