A small band of protesters decrying the treatment of the mob that overran the U.S. Capitol was dwarfed by hundreds of police officers and news reporters Saturday. Police said they had made two arrests, both for weapons violations.

At 1:30 pm, someone spotted what appeared to be a handgun on a man in the crowd. The witness told USCP officers, who detained the suspect. At this time, it is not clear why the man was at the demonstration. Officers charged him with 40 U.S. Code § 5104 - Unlawful activities.

A small cluster of counterprotesters have been holding down at 3rd & Pennsylvania — saying they’d rather be here than at the Freedom Plaza rally. Nadiel Seiler, one of the BLM Plaza fence protectors, said she wants insurrectionists to know “they’re not political prisoners.”

Police just fell back after a scuffle broke out between counter protesters & rallygoers on their way out. The crowd heckled counterprotesters, prer onlookers, shouting “fuck BLM!” & “fuck antifa!” The group responded in kind. Then words turned to shoves. No arrests.

This is Kecia from Maryland with her dog Moppett. Kecia was here on and says she’s not afraid to say so. She called it “a really fun day” & wishes today was more like that. She said she had 20 people agree to come with, but when today arrived it was just her — and the dog.

Trump backers protest detention of Jan. 6 rioters but in fact they are being jailed pending trial at lower rates than federal defendants charged with similar crimes. ⁦⁩ ⁦⁩ ⁦⁩ ⁦

I was at the U.S. Capitol in Jan. with when supporters of President Trump violently stormed the building. Out here again today for the “Justice for J6” rally organized by those who believe the insurrectionists have been wrongly detained.

There are so few demonstrators and so much media in front of the Capitol that there are lines to talk to the people here to defend the Jan. 6 rioters. One of them is Eugene Sibick , who came to defend his son, who he said was detained for his role in the insurrection.
