If someone says something bigoted at a social gathering, and someone else points out that it's unacceptable, the latter person is often accused of causing trouble. But the trouble started with the bigot, not the person calling them out.
This is why I'm terrified of "no politics" spaces. Because bigots will bigots but speaking up against them is always deemed political. Minorities really aren't safe in those spaces. (the extra kicker is if the place says it has a 0 tolerance for bigotry)
