I am very grateful that folks at Apple re-reviewed and have let us know we do not need to implement in-app purchases to be able to continue to update the app. Bad news travels faster than good, usually, so please consider sharing that they reversed course.

I did not expect the previous tweet to get attention outside the WP community. My understanding was the previous decision was final, and we had already made many of the arguments people suggested privately over the several weeks the app was locked.

We will continue to be responsive and do our best to be within both the spirit and letter of the app store rules, including closing any webview loopholes that pop up. This also made me appreciate the freedom of the open and independent web.

My life's mission, and the purpose of WordPress, is to increase the freedom of the internet. I hope in addition to native apps people continue to create websites and web apps that provide accessibility, autonomy, and freedom to the widest audience. Future generations deserve it.

Thanks for the update, Matt. User of your product.

They reversed course, certainly. But honestly, as long as Apple devices remain a closed walled garden system, I don't trust them. They need a way to install outside apps. Open that garden. Let others in.

The walled garden makes them more trustworthy not less. It ensures a more consistent experience. Plus, you generally don't need anti-viruses.

Of course they reversed course for YOU.. wordpress is a high profile company, and you required a PR campaign to convince them to update your own fucking app. Please, stand up for the little folks like ! The App Store tyranny has got to end, Matt, we need you!
