Contemplating the persistent tension between the many and the one. RT = absolute moral truth and I'll defend them with my life.

Fundamentally, what Democrats lack is a mean streak. The repetition of "can you imagine how Republicans would react if Obama had done that... " is tedious but illustrates the fundamental problem. D's mean this as some kind of an insult to Republicans, implying hypocrisy

    6. Pundits keep their shit together even if results are delayed.

It's possible that our election process has not, in fact, been torpedoed. It is delayed. Contrary to what everyone at Vox seems to believe, the world is not ending.

One way we could avoid rampant public panic over election results that are not in doubt would be to have journalists not panic over election results that are not in doubt. Every bit of drama today about Iowa has been journalist driven.

Twitter has lost its mind today. Otherwise smart people are leaping to conclusions and broadcasting sentiments that seem more like dramatic wish casting than any actual reasoning.

Feels like a good time to say that I look forward to enthusiastically supporting the Democratic nominee, and there are many things to admire about all of these candidates (and none of them were in charge of the Iowa caucus)

And then there's this stuff. What in the world would lead a journalist to make such a sweeping, unsupported statement?

Here we have a Democratic member of Congress and a New York Times employee spreading conspiracy theories. Our institutions are quite healthy.

"Democrats screwed America" Hell, I'm only using 1 in 10 tweets that are just abaurd journalist hand wringing and this thread may still go on forever.

Results are delayed. The collective media engagement in hyperbole like "unholy mess" is a narrative entirely separate from reality. Most Americans aren't paying close attention and will consider results when they hear about them.

Commentary from who? If the answer is pundits, journalists, and supporters of candidates who didn't do well, then you should be suspicious. Galen, you're better than this.

Results are delayed. A delay that the VAST MAJORITY of people won't even notice. That seems like a huge stretch from having it "all fall apart". Journalists, go home and get some sleep. You're not helping yourselves.

I don't even know where to start on this one. I like Rubin, but this take is way off. The idea that it was a smart strategy decision for Bloomberg to avoid Iowa because of the disaster journalists are creating in real time is absurd.

The problem here is that, if genuinely asked, the question answers itself. Does the runaway train of journalists erasing Iowa on Twitter represent real life?

Bad takes from smart people are the most absurd part of today.

Journalists desire for precision of timing shouldn't change the fact that people in Iowa voted & 1000's of volunteers/organizers put in an enormous amount of effort to make that vote happen. They shouldn't be told their voices/effort don't matter today.

And we definitely shouldn't be getting these takes from inside the Dem media structure.

Yes Iowa was a screwup deserving of mockery and criticism. But 200,000 or so Iowans did go to considerable trouble to vote and their votes, when counted, shouldn’t be dismissed. And 1,000s of volunteers worked hard for candidates or the party. So a h/t to Iowans despite the mess.

This is some passive aggressive journo maneuvering here. Take a breath journalists and I think you'll realize you're the only ones freaking out.

Journalists didn't have results and, apparently, were going to fill the vacuum with their frustrations. So, 3 options; 1. Pete credibly declares victory 2. Another candidate (possibly less credibly) declares victory 3. No one declares victory and journos declare democracy dead.
