4/ Some to call out with specific thanks are @coachsethberger who showed me the leverage of compounding growth in my career - work on a team that is growing inside a company that is growing inside a market…the power of “best idea wins” and high IQ, high EQ, low ego teams.
5/ @elise215 showed me the value of knowing what is right and the courage to fight for it regardless of the cost - because these are the costs that seem monumental at the time, but become amazingly small in the future/with the benefit of hindsight.
6/ Related, Carrie also reinforces the incredible advantage that comes from having a longer term view than your competition and being able to evaluate trade offs through an alternate lens when it comes to defining short term and long term costs/benefits.
7/ Rick Schifter from TPG taught me the value of identifying your core competitive advantages (the things that make you an outlier) and finding a role that requires that specific set of abilities/qualities.
8/ aka recognizing that doing the thing you love more than anyone else in a role that forces you to focus 100% of your energy on amplifying your unique strengths - is the only path to winning.
9/ All the founders I have partnered with have pushed me to be better in specific ways, but collectively have taught me the incredible value of knowing what I don’t know, knowing how to learn it as fast as possible and, knowing when I know just enough to make the decision.
10/ @Joshk reenforces many here. And, taught me the structural advantage you create when you play the game differently/redefine the operating paradigm for an industry - ie @firstround we play as a team in an industry that is mostly individual practitioners with shared overhead
