    We need a new tech company to start building tall, dense, mixed use buildings for towns and cities. Big condos up top, retail on the ground level, with schools and offices sandwiched in between. 🏢 You commute can easily be on the stairs on in an elevator.

    If the big tech companies disappeared tomorrow, not much would change. We’d just pick up the phone or read a newspaper. Productivity would probably increase. If the big agriculture companies disappeared, we’d all die in a few months.

    We might be able to build wood frame condos faster (cheaper?) than concrete condos. Think of that wood frame as temporary carbon sequestration!

    2 bldgs, same floor plan, one mass timber, one conc. Both thermally isolated concrete balconies. prices came in similar mass timber: significantly fewer deliveries, 6 mo. construction w/ 2 weeks scaffolding beton: 1 year construction, 4 mos scaffold

    America lacks a coordinated energy efficiency plan. Yes, we have energy-star and LEED. But we have no nationwide analysis to maximize the productivity of new development in infrastructure and housing. There’s no 🚢 captain, we are adrift yelling “electrify everything”

    the environmental impact reduction achieved by use of alternative vehicle technologies is relative to that of ICVs and it is not certain that the amount of reduction is enough to solve environmental issues such as GWP.

    Something is sustainable when everybody in the world can do it. If everyone in the world had an EV Tesla, we’d be completely screwed. EV’s are simply the least worst form of car-dependent suburban transit. Better than bad doesn’t mean it’s good.

    For people who drive a lot, electric vehicles are better than internal combustion engines. But it takes a ton of energy and pollution to make a electric vehicle. If you can bike and take mass transit, it’s much more sustainable.

    carbon emissions are not the only negative externality that electric vehicles mitigate — they also reduce air and noise pollution, which have a detrimental effect on many things, from house prices to health.

    battery technology is still incredibly inefficient to manufacture (it makes up 43.25 per cent of the e-Golf’s total carbon footprint) as we should expect this to improve as technology improves, although perhaps not at the rate of Moore’s law.

    owning an electric car may make you feel good. That you’re doing your bit for the planet, but as it turns out, unless you’re planning to drive one to obsolescence, while using clean power sources, they might not be the best option
