violent crime is down, including in the tenderloin, and homicides are not as up as the US average. property crimes are a factor of the pandemic (they’re also way up here). it just seems strange to me that people who say they’re for prison reform are against, well, prison reform

Anecdotally, it is, and it’s what’s driving the backlash. Hard to compare pre and post covid numbers, because of lack of tourists and other effects of lockdowns. If you’re a local, many people report feeling much less safe. Add to this

i know a few people in SF, who i’ve asked about this, and i’ve looked up the stats. i don’t mean to take away from how scary it is to have someone break into your garage, but just seems weird to see so many rich people push against CJ reform
