im sure it’s gotten even worse but SF’s been in a state of civic failure for a long time, and it’s not something the DA controls

This is where you are wrong. It’s gotten much worse, very quickly, and the onus is almost entirely on the DA. Regularly, we are treated to stories of where someone commits a serious crime five or ten times, and is released every time whereupon (imagine this) they do it again.
