Wherein Jaron Lanier says to that BOTH the religious belief in mind/body dualism AND the opposite belief that we live in a simulation lead to the SAME hope that we can escape death. Lex's conversations are amazing:

Saying “the universe is a simulation” is just a new-fangled way of saying “I believe in God.”

Except that statistically it's more likely that we are also just code within that simulation. lol. Does that make me a simulation theory nihilist?
Sounds like a good show though!
Lex is awesome, he is a big fan of Joe Rogan, and his style of questioning shows how he has influenced him.

I believe neither, which I guess means there's no escaping death for me.
Oh well.

Since every moment exists eternally, we each get a lifetime that doesn't go away. That life has two terminal points. A lot of people worry about the second one. If they understood relativity better, they might relax. Or maybe worry more about the first one.

Isn’t the opposite of dualism just monism, which has no necessary connection with whether we live in a simulation? (Asking for a friend. Named Spinoza.)

Uhh what? The opposite of mind/body dualism is not simulation theory. Simulation theory is actually a form of dualist metaphysics, arguing for reality & sim as the substrates. There's so much more to metaphysics, monism, pluralism, nihilism.

I don't hope to escape death ;)
Now reality, that's another matter.
