That $5,836 represents the cost that insurance pays, meaning policy holder pays a fraction of that amount (depending on deductible). So $1,000 may actually go a long way to paying for live birth. Could also cover about 2 years of diapers.https://twitter.com/KatyTurNBC/status/960602330918944768 …

Frightening that a national reporter doesn't understand how this works. Also frightening that any form of bonus or income increase would be minimized. Why are we arguing over whether or not it's good for people to have more money in their paychecks?

These are the same liberals that threatened if we did not subsidize birth control for $15 a month, women everywhere in America would die.

All you have to do to put things in perspective is ask whoever for $1000 and when they scoff at you say "What? Not willing to part with your crumbs?"

And a pregnancy/delivery that has complications can blow right through your out-of-pocket maximum. (That's usually much more than $1000, in case you're fortunate enough not to have to know what that is like.)

average deductible is like $945 .... plus co-pays, prenatal care, postpartum care, etc, it still comes out to be greater than $1,000 on average.
