I spent some time browsing anti-vaxx sites today and my rage is at level 11. It's hard to think of an example of conspiratorial thinking posing a more direct, objectively observable, effect on public health. Stubborn ignorance is putting newborn babies at risk.

That’s ignorance. Choosing to believe nutbars instead of scientists is pig ignorance. We’d call it ignorance if it was people asking a witch doctor to make a rain dance. No need to change our tune because the folks are insufficiently Oriental

When you have a political party whose stance is corporations are trying to poison you for profit and the government is complicit, you're gonna have a bad time.

It’s more than just ignorance. It’s a personal identity for them. They won’t change their way of thinking if it means having to leave that social circle unless the benefit for them to leave and change their mind is greater than being a part of it.

Everyone is deliberately obtuse and will refer to a laundry list of “studies” that “prove” their wacky conspiracy theories. Since you’ve never heard of these “studies,” you’ll look them up. It turns out they all have one or two authors in common. 1/2

Then you look up the authors and find out that they’ve been discredited, had their medical license revoked, etc. But they’re still good enough for these nut jobs to justify endangering the health of everyone around them. Rant over. 2/2
