I definitely think maths/logic truths are more certain that value truths. But once we accept that maths/logic truths are not true by definition, we're in the realm of Platonism, & not much of an extension is required IMHO to get objective value truths.

Very interesting. Yes, I'm inclined to think Chalmers' notion of a 'direct phenomenal concept' is a limit case, which we approach in mindfulness. I disagree with this thread from 7. I find the more one meditates, the more pronounced the hard problem of consciousness becomes.

Tweeting videos of normal folk who have been manipulated by the likes of Farage and Johnson then labelling them isn’t big or clever, it’s just cruel. Come on, people. We are better than this, surely?

A strange, sad day. Part of my family's identity as European is washed away by the first flow of a tsunami that follows a political earthquake. At the same time, I recognize the absurdity of this system of birthrights. We must do better, humans. We must do better for humans.

I think this state of affairs is tragic because it entails the termination of the possibility of intelligent life.

I don't think there can be valuable states of affairs without conscious subjects. The point is I think the fact that a certain state of affairs (e.g. a rabbit feeling pleasure) is good is not dependent on anyone's opinion about whether it's good.

Looking back on this period, our descendents (if we have any) will decide we took leave of our senses. Faced with the greatest crisis humankind has ever encountered - the collapse of our life support systems - we did battle instead against imaginary rules about bent bananas.

I love the one where the evil illusionist succeeds in his evil plot and turns everyone into philosophical zombies, only to have his plan ironically undone by an unconscious, yet precisely functionally equivalent panpsychic man. It's a classic!

I'm sympathetic with David Enoch's argument that robust value realism is presupposed by any kind of deliberation, and hence I think value anti-realism amounts to a radically skeptical hypothesis, analogous to thinking we're in the Matrix.
