We can decentralize the Web with peer-to-peer and fungible services. No blockchain is required. @dat_project @BeakerBrowser.

Censorship resistance is, as you know, non-binary. You have to look at different attacker models. Names are a common point of attack
-
Our top priority is building an apps and networking stack that moves business logic & data storage into the client
-
Once we've accomplished that we'll look at better naming models. My theory is that userland will influence the solution
-
because userland will generate webs of trust which we can draw from
-
I strongly suggest we meet/discuss - lots of open source standards-track work going on here across many motivated, collaborating entities.

So you're relying on ICANN and CAs as the foundation of your global index/lookup/rotation/revocation mechanism?
-
Like I said, temporary solution. I'll give DIDs a look and see if they fit our goals
-
We have an open src server in dev called a Universal Resolver - it connects to decentralized systems to provide a deterministic global index
-
Blockchain-based DIDs don't suffer the same attacks as names or any other form of trusted node PKI system (e.g. Key Transparency, PGP)
-
They're elegant but they require PoW. That's a blocker for me. Waiting to see what happens with PoS
-
Curious, why is PoW a blocker for you?
-
Did a little reading on your site and saw you cited two aspects: 1) PoW power consumption 2) Speed of blockchain txns I'll address: ...
-
1) "PoW = crazy power waste" is an oft repeated fallacy. Critics compare the power used for a BTC txn to a request sent over Visa's network.
