Under a permission dialog, I assume?

Not currently, and I've been debating whether I think it should. (It's an internal true/false to change.) It doesn't expose IP addresses, just peer count and whatever is sent via the APIs. What do you think?
-
I still want to be able to shut it off if it's annoying or harassing, though. I'm thinking about attention management more than security.
-
Yeah, what kind of thing are you specifically worried about? It's up to the sites you visit to leverage these APIs, so I assume *most* of them won't have some kind of annoying chat. I can definitely imagine the value in disabling it though (same as disabling JS has value)
-
And I can understand being hesitant to dialog it, given how most people will instinctively click No. But I think it's a low UI cost in the end for a lot of user goodwill (I don't think I'm alone in assuming, from evidence, that like 25% of sites *will* have some annoying chat).
-
I'll give that some thought
-
no permission prompt plz!! if something is "harassing or annoying" you can already shut it off just fine ~ disable notifications, mute the tab, say no to mic/webcam permission prompts, or stop using the site the P2P web must be beautiful and seamless. frequent popups are bad

This is cool! What about using this as the signalling server so we can keep on using Web standards such as webrtc?
-
I suppose you *could* but I don't know yet whether it'd add value. I think it'd just create a WebRTC channel to a peer you can already speak to via dat
-
The value I see is that it's 100% compatible with current Web Standards and it would only require minimal extra code. It feels more like evolving on top of the Web
-
That is something I care about, and I originally made the same argument in one of our issues. Some folks pushed back on WebRTC (they dont like it) but ultimately I chose this because it was one of the paths of least resistance for where Beaker is at. Least effort, highest impact
-
Cool, and is beaker looking into participating in standards work?
-
Nice, looking forward to hearing about more APIs you're experimenting with

Is this in place of the WebRTC signaling API idea you've spoke of before?
-
Yeah. May just be a stepping stone solution but I’m excited to explore it
-
Might be able to do signaling over this anyways. I was just giddy for the signaling API because of the potential for decentralized multiplayer games and expanding the usefulness of libraries like WebTorrent (escaping the server requirement and possibly adding LAN support).
