Really digging how this "contrast gain control" project has developed over the last several papers. Important implications for perception. How do subcortical circuits perform this operation???

This is really neat. Would love to see more studies taking a circuit-level approach to complex, social behaviors.

Wish more people talked about axons in general. A spike is only as relevant as its downstream consequences, which are established by n*p*q. All three parameters controlled exclusively (n,p) or partially (q; vesicle filling) by presynaptic mechanisms.

Really neat data from Hai Huang's lab (not on twitter?) that show how spike-mediated Na+ influx coordinates the reloading and recycling of presynaptic vesicles.

Friends, I will start my lab in the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at Academia Sinica (AS) in Taiwan next Fall! I've been helped by so many to pursue my dream. Want to study how cellular biophysics serves functions in behavior? AS has excellent international graduate programs!

This looks really neat. Climbing fibers laterally inhibit Purkinjes via an ephaptic (!) Mechanism to disinhibit (!) downstream targets. Wonder if this occurs in non-purkinje based circuits too? Do u need flat purkinje-like dendrite geometry or no?

Question for neuro hive-mind: We want to map tonotopy of auditory cortex by imaging intrinsic optical signals. Could an expert recommend a commercially available (and preferably inexpensive) CCD camera that is known to work for this application? Thanks!

We're hiring another technician to help with our studies of fascinating synaptic and circuit-level phenomena in the auditory system please RT, great opportunity to learn patch-clamp electrophysiology and Ca2+ imaging...

Wondered about this, because it makes sense: endogenous binding sites prolong transmitter lifetime in synaptic cleft. Good to see some modeling and data
