You can have experience, education (a Master's!), and talent, but despite the number of titles out there to translate, manga and anime translators can't pay the bills. 🥲 I love what I do, but I hate how the system exploits our love and passion.

After 1.5 years of translating manga, I've come to admit I'm just not fast enough and it doesn't pay enough to make a livable wage. Starting to look for something part-time to supplement it with. 🕵️

I will be interviewing 100 LGBTQ elders over the next two years for a project I am calling “OLD & QUEER.” I believe it’s vital to collect stories from our elders while they’re still alive, and I’m excited to share the first one here: Pat and Paulette, both 70, in Harlem, NYC 🧵

Secret in case anyone was ever wondering: It is not as though people in the industry now have never participated in the production or consumption of fansubs/scans; we simply learned to recognize the value of professional work and supporting the properties and grew past it :P

Things I do not recall doing #576: I just found an old cd case; apparently at some point circa 2010 I backed up all my torrented fansubs to DVD-Rs in order to save hard drive space... Talk about a time capsule 😂

😭 Naturally, this news has shaken them up quite a bit... But they have a crucial mission to follow through on, which would put everyone in more danger if they were to surrender to the capital now, and so for the first time in ages they find themself truly at a loss ;<

(Full context: My cleric [half-elf, 97] has been implicated in aiding another priest who is being targeted by a corrupt govt for crimes he didn't commit. In the country's capital, their family has been questioned because of this, and their outspoken grandchild recently detained.)

"This is all my fault." This may...actually be the first full comic page I've ever drawn 😶 Apparently what motivates me in art is hurting my own feelings- Who knew! Speaking out against power can bring danger, and my cleric has been left with a terrifying dilemma... #dndart

I'm one of the lucky 15,000 this year! I never even knew about this condition before a few months ago, and dealing with it is still a learning process. It can be mistaken for so much in the diagnosis process, so awareness is incredibly important. This happens to young people too!

I truly cannot imagine how much more strife i would have been through if I hadn't lucked out that the third(!!) dental specialist I saw about my debilitating mouth pain had not been also trained in neurology, and able to peg it right away. I really can't begin to describe it

Brain's officially broken, was trying to find something Halloween-related on a site, saw a category called "自然" which I then read phonetically, & my brain interpreted it as "season," so I was like, oh ok, seasonal things will be in here Then got confused seeing flowers & birds

I'm so haunted... there was a really cool horror short I found on Aozora Bunko that I started translating some 10+ years ago as practice that I would love to take a new stab at now that I'm, y'know, half decent, but I can't even remember who the author was, let alone the title 😭

Being a translator by both hobby and trade means walking away from your computer five minutes later still musing different ways you could have phrased a line in an '80s disco track about one woman's deep... passionate love for bananas
