Downing Street, under repeated questioning, has declined to praise businesses providing free meals for hungry children this half term, saying only that it believes free meals are not needed outside of term time. This is the political corner they have boxed themselves into.

This was at the daily lobby briefing, for those wondering about the source/format. From Boris Johnson's deputy spokesman. Asked if Johnson applauded such efforts, he said, finally: "You’ve had my answer on this. We've been clear on our position."

Not really, when have we ever carried over free school meals out of term time? Did labour ever do it?

The Cambridge English Dictionary defines ‘scum’ as: “A very bad or immoral person or group of people.” So #ToryScum is factually correct

What DOES Johnson believe in, other than gratifying himself?

So children don't need to eat outside of school times ... ... Is that the government position? Shouldn't these businesses helping out hungry children be praised? Not hard is it? 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Thank you ... (There did it for you #BorisHasFailedTheUK )

It’s awful as it is. But when you consider the £billions of our money given to their friends and backers it’s criminal. Public coffers being emptied for ‘companies’ set up hurriedly, with no experience or infrastructure and no penalties for non-delivery. It’s nothing but theft.

Whose children only get hungry during term-time? They need to come up with a reason that makes some kind of sense, surely?
