A cynic might say that in not disagreeing with the plan, Labour safely avoids a Daily Mail headline, while the ten-year jail plan – like many knee-jerk legal ideas - probably won't become law anyway. But as an indicator of approach, it's quite something.

Among the many obvious flaws to the new law: what constitutes a war memorial in this context? Just a cenotaph? Or would Churchill's statue – as a wartime leader – count? If so, would it also apply to any statue of a military figure? Just 20th century ones? Just British ones?

would a starmer led government actually be any better than the current one? increasingly reactionary statements from labour suggest not

you don’t need to be cynical to see labour become petrified of the oligarchs again the only question now is how they will be blamed for the catastrophic brexit to follow covid

Let’s have it right, he said he didn’t disagree with some kind of punishment for desecration of war memorials, none of us would have said any different. If he’d said not 10 years in jail, Ridge would have said how many years etc.

Lots of people would have disagreed. There's no need I can see for a specific new law, let alone one with longer jail sentences.

The Right loves to imply that ‘Political Correctness’ is all to how wrong it is to redress imbalances in society, when in reality it is they who love to impose their ‘thought police’ tactics to maintain their control over us! How on earth can anyone of conscience support this?

A sign that Starmer might be attempting to build a party that's actually got a chance of winning an election...

Yeah: people need to focus on the end goal of replacing a brutal, racist, oppressive society run by Boris Johnson with a brutal, racist, oppressive society run by Sir Keir Starmer.
