...It's a bit spooky, because smartphone preemptively uploads them without asking, and then google+ says "Can I post these please please?"

which is why I always turn it off. Sneaky google wants to have all your photos ready.

you can teach google+ not to do that... is bad that you need to do something to avoid it but at least you can :D
