oh, I thought you were trolling me. Using numbers to ick order by columns is a pet peeve of mine. Unreadable and fragile.

Could be a lesser evil in the event of very complex expressions appearing in select list, imho.

just name them and order by the name!

All queries that appear in src/bin (psql, etc) use col # (if no short col name, despite alias existing) #ivorytower
