oh, I thought you were trolling me. Using numbers to ick order by columns is a pet peeve of mine. Unreadable and fragile.

Could be a lesser evil in the event of very complex expressions appearing in select list, imho.

You can also push down into a sub-select or CTE and alias.

just name them and order by the name!

in that case i'm naming all my future ones on queries i'll share with you 1, 2, 3 and ordering by that :)
