Just curious, What are the ways I can help here. I'm just Greenplum/PostgreSQL DBA but really want to involve in community and do few things. Doesn't matter if they are small. Help!

Get the patch, compile with it, test it, benchmark comparing Postgres behavior (row-level locks) with and without patch – write your findings to the -hackers thread. If you can read the C code, review it and write to the thread too.

Anything that makes the system more adaptive to workload characteristics is very valuable in my opinion. As always, rare cases really matter in the aggregate, despite being hard to quantify.
