Postgres Core team is at a potential pivot point in its history.. this might be a good time to expand core, maybe from 5 to 9? It would preserve the 50% rule, preserve the institutional history of the current team members, and add some diversity and new talent into the group..

I agree this would be a good thing. Yet I believe Core deserves a much deeper rethinking. Like: - adhering to the same rules Core states for others (like members to be elected, not life-time members) - turn it into a legal person - prevent multiple positions for the same person

There are many options (e.g.: open elections, among contributors, among "members" --which is exactly what Core demands of any Postgres NPO--). The only wrong answer, in my opinion, is indefinite term, non elected. That has a name in politics that mostly nobody likes, for reason.
