So, since you’ve asked, that team no longer actually exists and it is now in core’s hands to form a new one (for over a month now). One of the challenges has always been how to weigh different kinds of contribution and the passage of time. Little direction was provided tho.

The question was about a change that was made over a year ago, when the committee clearly did exist. Not providing direction was the whole reason for the creation of the committee in the first place.

I tried to push for the committee to basically agree with that and to make progress by having votes, but not everyone agreed. If that had been stated from the start, maybe we would have been able to make progress...

I don't follow. The reason the committee was created was that people weren't happy with the core team doing it. If the core team told the committee how to do it, that would kind of have defeated the whole point.

Twitter isn’t the best place to try and discuss this, but it’s pretty clear that some amount of either direction or different people were needed to move this forward. As the direction didn’t happen, it was agreed to try new people. Maybe new people can figure it out without more.

Yeah. :). I’m still willing to try and be part of a new committee and to try and work through these things, because it’s important, but it’s also hard and not very rewarding.

I've been on projects without guidance / guidelines. It's not easy. Measuring contributions and deciding between contributor and major contributor is difficult. I would not want to do it. And as

@robertmhaas

pointed out, measuring non-code contributions is more difficult.
